I usually get my books from the bin at work. I have several women who usually pick National Bestsellers and then they share with others. Very nice. My mom has been getting a few here and there from my aunt and she shares them with me.
The ones in the bin are not new to me. I either read or gave up on them. I am at a point where I need to buy or borrow a book. I have put off going to the library because I haven't been in years (since my boys were young). I found my card and wonder if it still works. I would have to go to my town on my lunch hour and it'll take me 40 min. of travel time total so I won't have long to browse.
I hate to buy them because then I'll just have to turn around and donate to the library when I move.
My question to you is:
1) Where do you get your books?
2) Any recommendations for me? I have a few on my list (Jodi Piccoult, Harlan Coben, Stuart Woods). I like mystery and I like humor.
You might have to update your library card. But I browse the library online and then put a hold on them and I pick-up later. They usually give about 5-7 days to get them.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with Diana-that is one good way to get a bunch of books you want without paying. I don't like to spend $$ on books either, so we are always at the library. The online part is great-I look up my books ahead of time because the boys don't have a lot of patience for me to look at grown-up books. :)
ReplyDeleteAnother possibility is to see if you have any half-price bookstores or used bookstores. You can resell books for credit (not usually what you paid, of course). I don't usually do this, but I definitely go in and get books there every so often.
I wish I kept the books I read-I love mysteries too and I'd do a mailing exchange with you, but I don't really have any! :)
I am a library girl. Or I borrow from a friend. I only buy books I *love*.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if you're a member over at Goodreads or not. All my book-ratings are over there...
I'd definitely get my library card renewed or updated or whatever. You can't beat them for bestsellers and even catching up on older books or series books. I'm sure your library has a great online system, much better than mine :) You'll like the ease and flexibility of that and reserving books you want to try.
ReplyDeleteAs far as recommendations, I do agree with Picoult and Coben. I like her books and the one I read by Coben I did enjoy and plan to read more. I'm not much help because I've been mostly reading Christian fiction and cozies lately, or extremely light and fluffy :)
Let us know what you do and what you leave the library with!
